En Amsterdam no es extraño encontrarse con cacharros de dos ruedas que llamen la atencion. El protagonista de este post es uno de ellos. El panel solar le permite alimentar un pequeño motor electrico que podria ayudar en las cuestas que aqui no hay asi como lo que esconde el cajon, un ampli con dos altavoces al que puedes acoplar tu reproductor y que truenan de lo lindo.

The city of Amsterdam pioneered the idea of the municipal, low cost housing for the working class. Most of the buildings were constructed in the first half of the 20th century, when a special law (Woningwet, 1901) made it possible for the municipalities and the housing cooperatives in the Netherlands, to receive the financing from the state. This law as well as later legislations, created the whole wave of public housing constructions, with its peak in the 1920's. Large parts of Amsterdam beyond the old center were built in a distinctive, original style called the Amsterdam School style of architecture (Dutch: Amsterdamse School).

The "Einsteinturm" is the first important building designed by the famous architect Erich Mendelsohn. It was planned and built in the years 1919 to 1924, the main part was finished in 1921. One may argue wether it makes sense to define the building in terms of architectual style. The tower is often called the "main example for architectual expressionism". Its general design is very harmonic, however, and Mendelsohn's own perception oppose was different. In this aspect, everybody has to find his own answer.

In 1868 it was the place of the final battle between Bulgarian rebels led by Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha ^[1] and the Turks. In 1891 the socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organised socialist movement. In honour of this act was built the Buzludzha Monument, one of the symbols of the socialism in Bulgaria.

By the end of the millennium, thousands of homeless people roamed the streets of Manhattan. A small group of them went underground. Invisible to society, they managed to start a new life in the tunnel systems of the city. Acclaimed war photographer and cultural anthropologist Teun Voeten gained unprecedented access to this netherworld. For five months in 1994 and 1995 he lived, slept and worked in a tunnel underneath Manhattan's posh Upper West Side. With him, we meet Vietnam veterans, macrobiotic hippies, crack addicts, Cuban refugees, convicted killers, computer programmers, philosophical recluses and criminal runaways. Voeten describes their daily work, problems and pleasures with humor and compassion. He also witnessed the end of tunnel life. The tunnel people were evicted in 1996, but Amtrak and homeless organizations offered them alternative housing. Some succeeded in starting again above ground, while others failed.

2010: The tunnel is eerily empty. All constructions that could be used as dwellings have been torn down.

It’s populated by a community of workers called Zabbaleen, who personally collect, sort, reuse, resell or otherwise repurpose Cairo’s waste. The Luminant Point Arrays show cathode-ray-tube televisions being switched off. The television picture breaks down and creates a structure of light.
The images open up a dialogue between the relationship of abstraction and concretion in photography as the breakdown of the television picture describes the breakdown of external reference. The result is self-referential, concrete photography.

La definición que te puedes encontrar en Wikipedia de Máquina de Rube Goldberg es: aparato excesivamente caro que realiza una tarea muy simple de una manera muy indirecta y elaborada. Un invento así no puede ser malo. El empleo de estas máquinas ha sido explotado hasta el límite de lo imaginable en el programa japones Pitagora Suichi. Son doce minutos de vídeo, pero merece la pena.

Para quitarte de encima el acompañamiento musical de Pitagora Suichi este otro ejemplo de máquina de Rube Goldberg te puede ayudar. OK go: This Too Shall Pass. A tamaño natural.
